Myths about studying abroad

Studying abroad is a life-changing experience for your child, but many families hold back due to doubts that, in reality, have no basis. We'll walk you through the most common myths about the school year abroad and why none of them should stop you from taking the leap.

1 – When I come back, I might lose the school year and have to repeat it

That myth is completely false: the school year is validated with the Ministry of Education once completed. As part of our school year service, we handle the entire process so that no grade or achievement from your year abroad is lost.

2 – The only year to go abroad is Year 10 (4th year of ESO)

While it is a special year, you can also go abroad during the 1st and 2nd year of A-Levels (Bachillerato). Each year has its own qualities, making every one of them a unique experience. For example, Year 10 (4th year of ESO), being the Transition Year, is more focused on the overall experience without the pressure of exams, while the other years have a more academic focus.

3 – The visa process is too complicated

At My Language Quest, we guide and support you through the entire visa process whenever the destination requires it. Some destinations like the US or Canada require extra paperwork as they are outside the EU, but we are there every step of the way to make it a smooth and simple process.

4 – Once at the destination, the student is left without support

We have local support staff at every destination who provide assistance and guidance to the student throughout their experience abroad. We also offer 24/7 support for both families and students, to answer any questions and attend to any needs.

5 – I have plenty of time to make up my mind

Time is never on your side: overestimating the time available to prepare for this kind of trip is one of the most common myths. Starting the process early adds valuable preparation time and gives you the advantage of booking ahead.

The ideal time to start is today. Don't let a myth rob your child of the opportunity to live an experience that will mark them for life.
